1. Introduction

This Privacy Policy governs the Android application Gravity: Minimalist Launcher (Package ID: com.shivamgravity.launcher), developed by Shivam (https://shivamgravity.com).

Gravity was built with the core philosophy of digital intentionality and uncompromising user privacy. We believe that a phone launcher—the foundational gateway to your device—must be completely private, trustworthy, and free from telemetry.

2. Technical Architecture: Absolute Offline Operation

Unlike many mobile applications, Gravity does not request network access in its Android Manifest (android.permission.INTERNET is omitted).

This means the application operates in total air-gapped isolation from remote servers. It is architecturally impossible for the application to transmit your personal data, installed app lists, keystrokes, or screen time metrics across the internet.

3. Permissions & How They Are Used

To serve as an efficient, minimalist home screen replacement, Gravity requests only the minimal set of Android system permissions strictly necessary for user-invoked features:

A. Package Visibility (QUERY_ALL_PACKAGES)

Purpose: As a default home screen replacement (Launcher), Gravity requires package visibility to query the list of applications installed on your phone.

Data Handling: Application names, package IDs, and launch intents are queried locally in memory to render your A-Z app drawer, power instant search indexing, pin favorite apps to your home screen, and populate your 5-slot bottom dock. This information is stored exclusively in your local device sandbox and never leaves your phone.

B. Accessibility Service (BIND_ACCESSIBILITY_SERVICE)

Purpose: If enabled by the user in Settings, this optional permission is used solely to execute the native system lock screen command (GLOBAL_ACTION_LOCK_SCREEN) when you double-tap empty space on the home screen.

Data Handling: The Accessibility Service is configured with empty event listeners (accessibilityEventTypes=""). It does not observe, inspect, or log keystrokes, touches, text fields, screen contents, or actions inside other applications. It collects zero user information. Using this native API preserves full biometric unlock (fingerprint and face recognition) without triggering device admin lockouts.

C. Display Over Other Apps (SYSTEM_ALERT_WINDOW) & Foreground Service

Purpose: Used exclusively for the optional Mindful Time Budget and App Reflection features.

Data Handling: When you open an app with an active time budget, a subtle, non-intrusive 3dp progress line is rendered along the top edge of your display to visually indicate your remaining session time. When the budget expires, a dimmed time-up overlay is shown. The overlay does not record, intercept, or inspect any screen contents or user input.

D. Haptic Feedback (VIBRATE)

Purpose: Provides subtle tactile feedback when long-pressing apps for the context menu, reordering dock items, or performing gestures.

E. Notifications (POST_NOTIFICATIONS)

Purpose: Required by Android 13+ to display an ongoing system notification during an active Mindful Time Budget session so Android does not abruptly terminate the background session timer.

4. Data Storage & Security

All user configurations—including custom app nicknames, pinned favorites, bottom dock slots, chosen clock style, and typography preferences—are saved locally on your device using Android Jetpack DataStore within the application's private sandbox directory.

Uninstalling Gravity completely and permanently removes all stored preferences and cached app metadata from your device.

5. Third-Party Libraries & Telemetry

Gravity contains zero third-party tracking SDKs:

  • No analytics services (no Google Analytics, Firebase, Mixpanel, or Flurry).
  • No advertising networks (no AdMob, AppLovin, Unity Ads, or Meta Audience Network).
  • No remote crash reporting SDKs (crash logs remain local to your Android system logcat).

6. Children's Privacy

Gravity does not knowingly collect or solicit any personal information from children under the age of 13 (or under 16 in the EEA). Because the application collects zero data from any user, it is safe for users of all ages.

7. Changes to This Policy

Any future revisions to this Privacy Policy will be posted on this page with an updated revision date. In keeping with our privacy-first philosophy, we will never introduce silent background telemetry or remote tracking into Gravity.
